we retuned to alex’s family’s home last weekend to enjoy some quality time and midwestern fall activities. we spent a long week apart battling completely opposing schedules, catching glimpses of each other at home and finding time for a quick conversation on the couch. at the end of the week we felt completely disconnected from each other. so to take the time to visit family and be together outside the city was incredibly important and rejuvenating.

we spent time in the woods, at the coffee shop and in a yoga studio. we stayed up late talking with his parents, and cuddled his niece at the dinner table. we were forced into relaxation by a rainy afternoon, and sat in the hot tub while it hailed. the entire family ventured on a 2-mile walk, which was definitely the highlight of the weekend.

it was in no way a grand weekend, but it was healing and loving. we were able to take some photos and film a little video, which was refreshing after both of us being on such different wavelengths last week. our conversations with alex’s parents were delightful, and i think after every visit with family we gain a little perspective. it helps to pull us out of the daily grind, the negative self-talk about work and growth. we are reminded where we came from, and the value of those bonds above all else. it also brings a renewed appreciation for our relationship with one another. fall is a season filled with reminders of how fleeting everything is - time in particular. it calls us to cherish and appreciate moments big and small, which is exactly what we did.

overall the trip was something we didn’t know we needed, but our souls called it and we listened. watch it here.
