we had a surprise full weekend together after what was a long and tiring week. if you read my last post, or if you live in the midwest, you know that everyone including us is at wit's end with winter (as i write this, snow is falling outside). i think i speak for us both when i say that this weekend together was exactly what we needed. we balanced effort with surrender and honored both our want to do things and our absolute exhaustion and want to do nothing.

on saturday we slept in, got bagels, and then went rock climbing for the first time. it is so fun and exciting to do something new together -especially something active. we took a beginner's class, and thank goodness we did because otherwise we wouldn't have had a single clue about anything! we met another couple also trying rock climbing for the first time, and we chatted after class and even climbed together for another half an hour. it's definitely a good social activity, and i'm glad we tried it. we are both still incredibly sore even after three days! after that we got vegan food at a little cafe in uptown, and i forced us to stop at heritage for a quick coffee. then we "stupidly* took ourselves to crafty beaver to get some supplies for our final nesting project of the season. but more on that, in a separate post, later.

once we got home we realized it was five o'clock, and the day was basically over. neither of us had any motivation to cook, and we spent an hour watching tv on the couch. then we mustered up strength to heat up leftovers (so happy we even had some), and watched the new jumangi. it was hilarious.

sunday morning i made a frittata with apple chicken sausage and spinach, and we had toasted english muffins. we usually don't keep bread in the house, but it was a special treat. we drank our coffee and smiled at each other for a while, happy as can be. after breakfast we decided to start our project, but the start was a bit bumpier than we both anticipated. alex ended up having to grab a tool from a friend in wicker. this project was actually, deceivingly, the hardest one yet, but we can't wait to show it to you once it's completely done! after that alex made us a little more coffee and we watched some youtube, then headed to the store for stuff for dinner.

we made very satisfying cauliflower tacos with tangy cabbage slaw and avocado crema, and it was pretty quick and delicious! we were done and cleaned up by 7:30, and lost steam pretty quick after that. we were in bed by 8:30, asleep by 9, and that was it. we haven't posted this week as much as we typically do, and i think we both feel a little guilty about that. but as i said, we've been having a pretty tough couple weeks and sometimes it's okay to just watch youtube and movies and relax a little bit. when you spend most of your time doing stuff and pursuing things, doing nothing can be just as rewarding - and that's where we're at right now.
