we finally got PLANTS. in october, i wrote my first nesting post. you can go back and visit it here, but the series was inspired by us going to look at purchasing plants. at the time, and at the store we were at, we could only afford preserved eucalyptus. this was a great buy, and has brightened up our shower in the months since, but i remember feeling disappointed because i had hoped for so much more.

i just went back and read that first post, and i'm so happy i started this series. in that post, i wrote about incremental change. and that's what this process has been for us. it's been slow and incremental, but exciting and experimental. every time we make a change, i always think "wow i didn't think it could get any better but it just did!" and what a beautiful feeling that is to feel.

but anyway, as we are just on the cusp of spring, we finally got the first signs of green in our home. they, of course, bring me joy to look at, but what i am most excited for is to see how they grow (as, in theory, we won't killl them). i was looking up how to care for our fiddle leaf fig, and found out they can grow to almost six feet - what an exciting process to watch! it's a bit like caring for an animal - you nurture it and cultivate a relationship with it, and you can watch it flourish and feel it love you back by growing bigger and more beautiful. i think it's this slow process that i'm most excited to witness.

it's also such a great feeling to accomplish a goal, or check something off the list. i remember being so disappointed in october that we couldn't bring home any plant babies because they were too much of an investment. i remember that day, that feeling, as if it were yesterday. and now, here we are, in march, and my goodness we got those plants before the first buds of spring arrived. and now they'll be home and the warmer weather and longer days are so close that they should just sprout right up and out. and i can't wait to see what happens once that warm, fragrant spring air starts blowing through our open windows.

we got our plants from home depot. i still would love to go back to that other plant shop and support a local business, so maybe when we are looking for something smaller to go on a table, we'll bike back over that way. but if you're in the market for some very reasonably priced plants and accoutrements, we highly suggest home depot.
