today was not a particularly remarkable day. it was the chilliest it's been yet (low 50s but quite breezy). i think our bodies were subconsciously adjusting as we tried to navigate what we hoped would be a normal day. since we took care of cleaning the house yesterday, and we were too lazy to cook today, we grabbed coffee, a breakfast sandwich, and a muffin from beans & bagels, our local breakfast spot. we ate and drank on the couch and watched portlandia, trying to decide what to do with our day. alex wanted to take a walk, so we warmed up some apple cider and put it in a thermos, and went out for about an hour. after our walk we decided we needed some snuggle time, but we weren't done leaving the house yet. i had one mission i wanted to accomplish. something we both believe in is stocking the house with greenery. and thus, the mission is to fill our home before winter sets in. we know having plants will lift our moods immensely during the cold months, and help us better enjoy being cooped up at home. today, we took one manageable step toward this goal: we bought preserved eucalyptus for the bathroom. Our friends put it in their shower a few winters ago, and i've been wanting to copy them ever since. we headed up to gethsemane garden center to pick up our eucalyptus. Our bundle of sinus-clearing plants cost us $15, and they look so beautiful hanging from our shower head. I can't wait to see how it smells once I actually shower!

the purchase also inspired me to start this nesting series. we had plans to do more "themed" and "diy" posts as we go through the winter, but i want to be honest and transparent about where we are at. that transparency, we've come to realize, is part of our integrity as artists and as people. these home projects are definitely going to be incremental, baby steps because that's what we can afford right now, and that's okay. we are both so excited to continue cultivating this space, in changes both big and small.
