date night during a tumultuous week

it's been a weird week for us over here. there's change going on all around us, all at once. our things sit in boxes all over our disheveled home as we prepare to move, but we are still living in this chaotic place that doesn't really feel like ours anymore. we both have made some important decisions about our careers this week, and wading through that transitional water has been exciting but also emotionally intense. we also haven't really spent that much time together, and our time in the evenings has consisted of game of thrones on the couch. so last night, when we were on our respective commutes home, we planned a date night.

i used to live in east lakeview, and my alley was right next to crisp. if you live in chicago and you've never been to crisp, you haven't really lived in chicago. it's a korean restaurant known for their korean fried chicken. it's the best chicken ever. ever. they also have delicious buddha bowls. the walls are painted lime green and i've never been to crisp and seen it empty. it's always packed and there's always a line. so we grabbed our six-piece sassy seoul chicken and buddha bowl with steak and climbed back on our bikes. alex led us to diversey harbor, where we sat and happily ate and drank the prosecco out of the s'well bottle i had brought.

we both needed desperately to see the water last night. the clouds were beautiful shades of peach and purple, and the water sparkled in that deep, magical blue color that only exists during sunset. we talked a little, but mostly we just gazed alternately at our delicious feast and at the water and the clouds drifting through the buildings of the iconic skyline. feeling slightly more inspired, we took some photos in the fast fading light and then took the lakeshore path home, enjoying the views and the scents of the trees and bushes as we cruised by.

i think this was a small salve for our hearts. it was nice to be out of the house, away from the chaos, and by the lake that always settles our souls.
