eaux claires: troix (or alternatively, how we remembered that we are young)

there are so many things to say about our experience together, but i made one observation toward the end of our time in eau claire that we both quickly realized was the theme and intention behind our experience. this trip reminded us of our youth - we often get so caught up in our day-to-day lives, working all day, cooking dinner at home, watching tv, and going to bed early. we don't really do things that "young people" do - we try to save money, and we still have fun but we're just not doing what we feel people our age traditionally do. this festival was a chance for us to have a totally new adventure and experience, together - as two people in their early 20's doing something that people in their early 20's do.

we drank wine out of water bottles, we danced in the rain, we screamed until our voices went hoarse, and we camped out in my parents' car. we took selfies and stayed up late and ate giant slices of water melon. we did yoga together after a terrible night's sleep and we people-watched like crazy. i learned that alex knows all the lyrics to every chance the rapper song ever, and he watched me have a literal freakout as i realized that some of my favorite songs were about to be played (may i have this dance & friends).

above all, our first priority was to just spend time together - and that's exactly what we did. everything else was icing. we had some bad weather, and some shows that we desperately wanted to see got cancelled, and sleeping was a huge bummer - but we still had some stinking fun and at the end of everything we both realized how grateful we were for the experience we had. even as we look back on it now, the only word that seems to fit is "magic".

below you can see a short photo gallery. we both agreed we didn't take as many photos as we would have liked, but this means that we were just being super present with our experience and with one another. i think the photos we did take are beautiful because most of them weren't taken with the intention of posting an aesthetically pleasing photo to instagram - we took photos to remember specific moments, and that makes them special and beautiful in their own way. we also attempted to make a little video about it - it's not perfect, but it's a summary of our experience and something i know i'll watch again and again.
